1 day agoFirm orders for 12 Airbus A350-1000 for Project Sunrise. However the global travel downturn came out of nowhere and put the brakes on Project Sunrise and the Airbus order. The Qantas Airbus A350 order Qantas intends to place an initial order for up to twelve A350s although more are likely to follow not just to expand the Project Sunrise network but to take on other long-range routes such as Perth to London and Sydney and Melbourne to the USA.

While many other airlines already fly the A350-1000 the special Qantas version was to be fitted with an extra fuel tank in order to tackle the globe. The Australian airline was on the cusp of ordering the aircraft early in 2020.

1 day agoTo be launched late in 2025 the flights will use A350-1000 aircraft specially configured with extra premium seating and reduced overall capacity to ferry up to 238 passengers on a 20-hour trip -. Tags 717 737 A220 A321XLR A350 Airbus Boeing. The airline anticipates the aircraft to be in service from 2025 based in Sydney and lists New York and London as flagship destinations for the A350s.

Qantas has decided against the Airbus A350-900ULR for non-stop flights from Australia to London and New York and is instead eyeing the larger A350-1000ULR which could carry more passengers on those 18-20 hour treks. Under the flagship plan Qantas jets would fly primarily from Sydney nonstop to cities like London and New York. Qantas tentatively selected the A350 as the platform for its proposed ultra-long-haul non-stop flights in December 2019.

Firm orders for 20 A321XLR and 2 0 A220-300 for Project Winton to start the renewal of Qantas narrow-body fleet as its fleet of 95 Boeing 737 and Boeing 717 aircraft retire. Airbus confirmed plans for an ultra-long range version of its A350-1000 jet in June this year with Airbus Chief Commercial Officer Eric Schulz. There was speculation that the A350 first class suites may include sliding privacy doors a flourish already adopted by many airlines for not only first class but in some leading-edge business class cabins.

The carrier hopes that if the order is confirmed by mid-2022 the first aircraft will be in service in 2025. Its being reported that Qantas will on Monday be placing a firm order for 12 Airbus A350-1000s which the airline will use for its Project Sunrise flights expected to commence in 2025. Qantas will have the fewest seats of any A350-1000 operator in the world.

Airbus has yet to reply to Qantas request and may give the reserved production slots over to another airline. Deliveries are to commence in 2025 and be complete by 2028. The A350-1000 is powered by the latest generation Trent XWB engines from Rolls-Royce.

The finalisation of the deal with Airbus for twelve A350-1000 ULRs is subject to Qantas board approval.
